In the third century BC, the rising power of Rome would clash with its most deadly adversary in the form of the rival Carthaginian empire, whose territories stretched across northern Africa and onto the Iberian Peninsula. Chief amongst the Carthaginians was the nobleman Hannibal Barca, a general who would win a string of spectacular victories over the Romans and lead his forces (including war elephants!) on an audacious march across the Alps that would carve his name into legend.
